Hello all.I am new here.i have joined your site to learn and understand autism.
I have 3 children and none of them have autism and they are fit and healthy (thank god)
I do how ever work with autistic people in a care home setting,i have only been working there for 8 weeks.i never knew much about autism and am learning new things every day.i am reading books to learn more and doing courses.
i really enjoy my job and it is very rewarding.
i look forward to posting in your forums and hopefully learning more about autism from you all and the info on your site.

hi zelda welcome i also work with an autistic 10 year old and am learning this is a wonderful place to be the people are very nice and im sure will help you lots ,,,you may even find yourself helping someone out .... funny whether they are our children or not we are all connected because we all want the same thing in the end,,,,,,happiness for our special people,, we all have fears about what will ever become of them,,,,, will they ever fit in ? will they be ok????..i believe they are already ''ok'' we are the ones who need to adjust,, to,, accept the special gift we have been given,,,, i have learned so much and am proud to be here and am able to say''we did it we beat the odds'' and we will be just fine...... welcome ...laurie

I do thing you are right when you say we are the ones who need to ajdust.
i will admit to anyone that when i started my job i was worried scared and yes
fear came into mind.(fear of the unknown).As i said i am new to understanding autism and have only worked with autistic people for 8 weeks.but with help and research i hope i will do well.

i already know you will do just fine,, you are already devoted by looking into it,, and oh i can relate to that fear ,,,,,, i have now been one on one working with an autistic child for the past few years but have been her daycare provider for 10 years since she was a baby i wasnt sure how i would do as a teacher and was quite nervous however we had the bond and just went forward,, as you will goodluck........... laurie
