Hello everyone,

I was starting a search today on a topic related with Autism and found this site today. I started navigating around and quickly liked what I saw and signed up right away as a member.

Let me give you a brief background:
My wife and I have 3 boys. :) Our oldest (15 years old) was diagnosed with ADD when he was 9 and our middle boy has been diagnosed with Autism. He is 9 years old and was diagnosed at the age of 4. Our youngest child who is 5 years old does not exhibit either of those traits of his older brothers.
For years my wife has been the one in the family to regularly educate herself on Autism/PDD. Figured it was about time to get some more education myself instead of the "on the job" training I've had for a few years.

I hope to find out more than I currently know and maybe even add some observations myself.

Hi Butterfly27,

If you are still having the water problem still, I have a suggestion for you. My son was for a period very fascinated with water.

Since I've known my own son to have a great sense of logic and caring for the Earth, I used the fact that by playing with water so much, we were wasting the water when it is not being used for a specific purpose such as bathing, washing dishes, etc. That by just letting it run and not being used for anything valuable, it was in fact being wasted and that the people and animals that really needed it were at risk for not being able to have the water.

This proved to be succesfull and shortly after we were past this stage!

hi Butterfly27, sounds like your son may have some sensory issues and water and dirt and some other textures have a calming effect. How old is he? do you have an occupational therapist? OT is important for addressing sensory issues. I'm sorry I will give you a little background on us. My daughter is seven and has several dx, she and I are both in the spectrum. Sensory Integration Dysfunction, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Central Auditory Processing Disorder. Once you get the dx of ASD you really have to dig a little deeper and address individual symptoms and disorders but sensory dysfunction was the most debilatating(did i spell that right)you can probably get an Occupational Therapist through your district school. Good luck
