Hi I am a mother of a soon to be 4 year old boy, I was told he had ASD but I know nothing about this and everytime I talk to someone they say how severe is it? Well the doctor did not tell me, maybe someone else could?
He has no health issues, He likes to play with adults more than children, He learns new things quick, He has only about 10 words but looks at me when I am try to teach him and mouths the words along with me, He always looks me and people he knows in the face, He is just a bright little boy he just has troubles talking and socializing with kids his age, and trying new foods.
I was wondering do children with Autism usally have health problems or develop them down the road?
Thanks...

I would say yes.
My son developed noticable health problems as an adult. Yet its not like there were not other issues (sensory, behaviour) to be dealt with along the way.
Because he appears healthy, I would not rule it out though.
My son now takes many supplements to help with deficiencies and such.

Your son sounds alot like my daughter. She will be 4 in August and she has about a ten word vocabulary. She was just referred to a specialist today. Is ASD a form of autism? Im clueless on most of this stuff. I want to know so bad what is going on with her. I wish someone would tell me right now!! I have to wait for the specialist to confirm a condition though. Does your son line up items? My daughter does that and she communcates with her hands alot.

My son is also having the same behaviour pattern, he plays mostly with Adults and minimun with other childrens, he treats them like they are not there, unless they iniciate the play trying to chasing him around. He also has been diagnosed with Autism spectrum, and serously despite our frustration with aceptancy that he in fact has it, when you look closely to other childrens of the same age you will notice the differential.

He learn very fast when he is interesting in the subject, but it can be hard to get his attention sometimes, just to give you an idea, he knows the whole alphabet and number from 1-30, he also shows a remarkable memory, and fasionation to music, numbers, letters.

as far as I remember we used to think , he was like any other kid, just a loner.

good look.
