I am the Mum of a 16yr old girl who I think has autisum. The closest I have ever been able to get for some kind of diagnosis is when she was younger was being told that she proberly had dyspraxia (but they couldn't give definate diagnosis) and the Special Needs Teacher at her High School agreeing with us that she was on the Autisitic Spectrum.
My problem is that I want a proper diagnosis and I feel that my daughter has the right to a proper diagnosis (she doesn't understand why she does the things she does and is very unhappy in her life). I wondered if I will be doing the right thing for my daughter in trying to get a diagnosis or should I continue to listen to the people who have over the years said I shouldn't label my daughter. I live on the Isle of Wight in England and feel that over the years when I have tried to get help for my daughter I have been fobbed off because of funding.
I could really do with some advise from anyone who could tell me how I can go forward.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
