Many autistic children have poor immunity to colds/infections. A few things you may want to try:

1. Vitamins, and lots of them! Try www.kirkmanlabs.com for high B6/B12 vitamins. Use vitamin C - I give my child 500 mg. a day, in addition to whatever is in the multivitamin (we use SuperNuThera with P5P from Kirkman LAbs) - just make sure you use Esther-C or buffered C, so as not to cause stomach upset. We also supplement with essential fatty acids and calcium.

2. Try an elimination diet. First, try eliminating milk and all milk products. Substitute with soy products (unless there is a known soy allergy or sensitivity, in which case you can try potato-based or rice-based products). www.glutenfree.com (?) has info on eliminating casein from the diet. If that helps, then try eliminating glutens. Many parents have reported less illness after eliminating the casein and gluten.

3. Probiotics, especially if your child has taken a lot of antibiotics. You need to replenish and replace the "good" bacteria in the gut that the antibiotics are destroying. Eliminating sugar and refined white flour may help, too, as too much of either can provide a breeding ground for "bad" bacteria in the gut. You may want to ask your doctor about testing for a yeast infection, or treating for one even if there are no signs of one. This has been known to help some autistic children who have been on too many antibiotics and who have a lot of diarrhea.

4. Check on amazon.com for a book by Jackie McCandless (sp?) - it's about biomedical treatments for autism. I can't remember the title exactly, but it details things you can do to improve immunity.

I hope this information helps.
