I'd like to hear from other parents on how they take care of their childs teeth. It is an everyday battle for us and no matter how hard we try it seems at every 6 months check up it looks like we haven't been brushing!!

How is he at the check up? Does he let them clean them?

Does he not like brushing - Is that what you mean by battle?

My son can do his on his own now, though sometimes he wants me to help. His teeth are good and healthy, though we never tried orthodontics. Gums can get a bit red sometimes.

He is okay at the check up although he gets very anxious when we drive up and we don't wait in the waiting area as he would upset all the other patients. My husband and I both go back to the hygiene area and help with him. It wears us out but they assure us it doesn't bother them and they all seem to have extra patience with their handicapped patients. I think it is mainly an oral defensive thing where he doesn't like the feel of certain things in his mouth - we have tried sonic care, spin brushes, different types of toothpaste. You'd think after 24 years he'd be used to it, but sad to say, if one of us is not available at bedtime - there is no way to brush his teeth sufficiently because it still takes both of us.

I am glad to say his gums are healthy and he has a beautiful smile. We have an awesome pediatric dentist who has always gone the extra mile to make him comfortable. If anyone in central Mississippi needs a dentist I can recommend one for their special child.

Yes I was going to mention the Sonic Care. We've used that for several years and it has helped us a lot.

That's too bad that he's still defensive to it, but glad he's got a good smile and great professionals and parents to work with him.:D
