View Full Version : Witholding medical information from schools

So if you've read through any of the other dozen threads I've started you already know I've got all sorts of issues with school right now. One of these issues surrounds medications and medical issues.
Medications: since starting my son on meds, the school staff have become very pushy about what meds he's on and what they think he should be on. Basically they want me to medicate his behavors - in other words, sedate him. I turned to medication to help with focus and ADHD type behaviors. In trying different medications, I've noticed the teacher really seems to base her responses on what she knows. For instance if my son has a bad day, she calls and asks if he had his meds (usually he has had them and there is no connection). So I've stopped telling her when there is a med change, which is within my rights as a parent. I don't like being deceptive but it really felt like I was getting biased opinions.
Additionally, they are pushing me to have all sorts of medical tests done. Neurology related things, mostly - which I admit would be nice but getting the proceedure done is so traumatic.
AND on top of this all, they call me every time my son blinks. They've insinuataed that he has everything from bladder infections to schizophrenia. They want me to take him to the doctor on a weekly basis for one thing or another. It really feels like they think I am an unattentive, neglectful parent - as if I wouldn't have a clue that my own child were sick. They even call me and ask if I took him to the doctor and what the doctor said. I don't think they're even allowed to do that. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate their input and concerns but it sure feels like they go overboard at times.
Anyway, I believe the school isn't even allowed to reccomend medical proceedures or medications. I really feel like they are being uber-nosy. Am I overreacting?
