I never thought I'd be here. My son's school program bites. They undereducate him and he's bored to death so he's started acting out and now they are threatening to suspend him. I've requested an emergency IEP but at this point in the school year that is going to be like getting snow in Arizona in the month of August.
Currently, there is a behavior plan in place which they are supposedly implementing and it's obviously not working - whether that is because of a lack of consistency or its not the right progam, I don't know. What I would like to see happen is some intensive 1:1 behavior modification in the classroom until they regain some instructional control.
Do any of you know what my IEP rights are during summer session? Can they tell me that just because it's summer I can't have an IEP? Several people I've talked to seem to think this is so. I think that's ridiculous. If my son gets suspended because of behavior they'll have to have a meeting so why not have a meeting before something so drastic happens? Leave it to the school district to wait until drastic measures before they do anything.
