I know a younger child who exhibits the following symptoms/behaviors, and I don't know whether I should be concerned about autism or not, and I would appreciate some advice.

1. Not very social, prefers solitary activities
2. Very quiet, speaks only when absolutely necessary
3. Coordination could use improvement
4. Seems to have occasional problems following verbal directions, but none
following written ones
5. Occasionally takes on a blank stare, lasting from 1 - 2 minutes to a half
hour
6. Sometimes these blank-stare "episodes" are accompanied by fist
clenching to the point of drawing blood
7. When in these blank-stares, the child does not respond to outside
stimuli, but remains sitting up
8. Excells in academics where writing, crafts, or computer work when little
auditory or vocal skills are required
9. Age is 5-6 years old (not sure when their birthday is)

I would appreciate any and all opinions, as I am really concerned and don't know where to turn or what to do.

Number 6 is strange....Sounds like a seizure or something.
