I just made a new friend who has a child aith autism. She doesn't have a computer so I am trying to get some info for her. Her son is 13 and gags himself a lot. Is there a reason why or a way to stop it? Thanks! Kat

Gagging I am really not familiar with and that is something my son has never done. I have been surfing through tons of websites lately on anything and everything to do with autism because of a school placement issue I am involved with currently; and I do wish that I could help you out with this one. I wanted to address this area though; as maybe be creating a reply on your behalf this particular subject maybe can be addressed and help to give you some type of resolution from other parents out there who are experiencing this. I will also make mention of this in one of the online support groups I belong to and I will try to get back to you on this as soon as I possibly can.

My son is now five and autistic and he has done the gagging thing since I could remember. He is extremely sensitive to textures when it comes to food. If I even walk by him with a plate of food he thinks is gross he will gag, either involuntarily or by making himself. He does the same thing if I give him something to eat that he either doesn't want or is tired of or just plain thinks is gross. He also used to gag himself when he would get upset. I'm not sure what that had to do with the price of apples but he would do it nevertheless. I don't really see any medical reason for it, it just seems to be one of his quirky oddities and how he deals with certain textures. I don't worry about it.
