I was diagnosed with autism at age 3, and am in the process of being tested for aspergers. I'm thinking about applying for SSI. anyone out there drawing SSI right now? If so, did you have any problems getting approved?

my son applied and got approved right away , go for it.

thanks for the info. I've been doing alot of research, and I beleive I more than qualify. I'll be appllying this week. I hope for the best.

[I]My son is 16 years old and about one or two years ago he qualified. In the state we live in it took about six months for the approval to come through; and he had to see a state pyschiatrist that specilaized in autism. I don't know how your state works through the process as sometimes it does go quicker. For instance he rec'd it while I lived in Ohio; and there he was preapproved the first month we applied for him. So I would advise you apply soon that way if the process is long and drawn out for you at least you know you will be retroactively paid from the date you applied.
