my 4 year old grandson & his mother live with me. He is not potty trained yet & will not even sit on the toilet. He used to at least sit there but not now. He fights every time. He knows what to do but is just stuborn or at least that is what is seems like to his mother & me. My daughter has tried taking him after his meals and in between but he will not sit. We tried a potty seat (floor), potty seat attached to the commode but nothing seems to work. We cant let him go without a diaper because we have wall to wall carpeting. What else can we try? We are desperate. Thank you

The way you have explained it sounds like your grandson may be afraid of the toilet. If this is the case I would try reading some stories to him about going to the bathroom and what is expected of him in there. I have a 5 yr old son with autism and he only recently this past april is potty trained, but at night he is still in pull ups. My sons worker had made up a social story including his name in it (nothing Fancy). The story described my sons bathroom routine from begining to end, including pull up your pants and washing hands before he leaves the bathroom. I also have pictures beside the toilet showing my son what to do 1. pull down pants 2. sit on toilet 3. go pee or poop 4. use toilet paper 5. pull up pants 6. wash hands. these pictures were made from a computer program called boardmaker. i hope this helps a little. please remember don't force him into this or it may back fire on you. goodluck and have lots of patients.

Cheryl, thanks for your response. You may be right and I will pass it onto my daughter. I am afraid her patience is running thin.
