View Full Version : Need Help
Hello, My Son Is 3 1/2 And He Is Showing Signs Of Autistic/ Pdd Tendacies. He Has Been In Early Intervention Since 18 Mths And Has Continued In The Preschool Programm With Speech And Ot. I Had Him In A Regular Preschool And The Teacher Came To Me With Some Concerns Regarding My Son. She Said He Acts Like A Typical 2 Yr Old, For Ex Taking Toys Away From Kids Instead Of Asking To Play With The Other Kids, He Always Tends To Play With The Puzzles And Alone, He Sings And Answer Questions Loudly, And When Asked Questions He Really Doesn't Answer. We Are Now Trying To Get A Social Counselor To Take A Look At Him. I Was Also Told To Look Into A Special School For His Next Preschool Year To Handle All His Needs. It Was Also Suggested To Look Into A Neurological Doctor To Do Some Tests. My Question, Can Someone Recommend Some Neurological Doctors? Thanks For The Help And Any Other Advice I Would Love To Take. Tina ;)

Tina, Hello! Your early intervention program should be able to provide you with a
neurological doctor. Thats how my now 5 year old grandson was diagnosed. Good luck!
Feel free to e-mail me anytime if you have any questions.

My son has had a wonderful neurologist in the Cleveland, Ohio area for the past 9 years. If you're in that area, let me know.

Tina, I guess at 3 1/2 your child is out of early intervention. Sorry for that over sight.
Do you have any type of social services where you live?

Another alternative to the Special School idea, is to have him stay in a regular Preschool with support (an aide).
Tina,
I wasn't sure from your message if you have had a good, aka thorough, evaluation done.
Is the speech and ot something you are providing? Or is it through the school district? Get you local school district to do a thorough evaluation if it isn't already done. Ask the special education staff who are the best doctors, neurologists, etc.
Join a local autism parent support group. You can find one through the internet by doing a search, or contact the national autism society. Parents in your area will have the best resources, doctors, dentists, etc.
Good education makes an enormous difference in later functioning levels. A good program can include special education class time, regular pre-school time, possibly an aide to help support his attention and social needs, applied behavior analysis/discrete trials training, social skills training, etc.
Good luck! - Darrel
