Hi! I am a parent of a wonderful boy who has autism. His father and I just found out offical on May 17, 2005. I always new something was wrong with him but I got the same reponse as most of you from my doctor that boys are slower than girls. My doctor told me to stop comparing him to his older sister. My mother insisted that my son could not hear us. He grunted and pointed never reacted to lound noises. We live on an air force base so there is a lot of planes. He had tubes put in his ears in August of 04. I went through a program called Child Find here in Las Vegas to put him in a speech class. The speech therapist said he had autistic behavior. She told me not to worry about it and that she and the program would set up an IEP. Weeks of testing and it came out that he might have ASD. Of course being in denial I set up an appointment with an neurologist. Child Find placed him in a school program for autistic children. I have been truly blessed my son is in a class of 6 children. He has a wonderful teacher with two aides. My son has improved so much. I try to deal with this one day at a time but just not knowing what is going to happen with his future is driving me mad.
