Hello everyone......new to the group. My name is Tonya and I live in southern CA. I have been married almost 18 years(August 1st) I have two children. Little boy, Jonathan almost 7 and a little girl Tatyana 17 months. My son was dxed with autism 10/2000. Thankfully my husband was with me when we got his dx. I didnt hear anything after the dr said autism. At that time I thought autism was like mr. Through research I have found it is not. From day one, I have been trying different things to help my son. In Sept 2004 I started homeschooling my son because of how many would be in the classroom. They were going to put my son in a class with about 23 children who had mild to severe emotional disablities. I don't have a problem with that, did have a problem with the fact that they were going to put 1st-5 graders in the same class. I dont know if anyone else noticed, but 3rd graders to 5th graders are a lot bigger then they were when I was in school(I am 37) Plus there was 1 teacher and 1 aide. Since starting his homeschooling he is doing very well. I homeschool through our school district. I have heard a lot of horror stories about homeschooling through the school district but I must say I have had nothing but postive experience with our district. He still gets all his services (OT, APE and ST) Also next year I got to change some of his curriculam. The math part. They are allowing me to use another math program with him instead of the one the school district had. He just wasnt getting it. Just wanted to introduce myself.
