My son's school is recommending the vaccine to protect against type C invasive meningococcal disease (IMD). Currently students get two doses of hepatitis B vaccine approximately 4 to 6 months apart. Now they will be offered vaccination against type C IMD at the same time....saying no increased side effects have been found by giving both vaccines at the same time. The risk of IMD increases in adolescence....and those with a weakened immune system are at increased risk of getting IMD. IMD can be very serious and lead to death.
Our history - chronic ear infections - treated with antibiotics; and possible connection to the MMR - no obvious change, but looking back at pics notice change at approx time of shot.
My Q? Should he have the IMD shot? Did anyone else have to make this decision? I went through this with my NT daughter....explained the risks and benefits and left the decision to her.....she decided to have the shot. What do you think?
