Hello all-
This is my first time to this site and I just wanted to hear how other parents handle certain situations with their autistic children. My som is 3 1/2 years old, and was first diagnosed at age 2. My wife and I have our son several different programs. My first question is about eating. Our son does not eat, he basically lives off of Pediasure. A daily diet will consist of maybe a 2 dozen cheez it crackers, and if we are extremely lucky, 1/2 of a hamburger bun. Does anyone having techniques in regards to getting a child to eat. We have had our son with an OT for about 9 months now, but I don't see any real improvements, yet.

Hi,

I have a 3 1/2 year old son who is quite picky with his food also. He only eats about 5-10 items similar to your son. I recently picked up a book that has been helpful, the Psychologist who diagnosed Dylan recommended it. The book is "Just take a bite" easy, effective answers to food aversions and eating challenges! by Dr. Lori Ernsperger. My son is just starting services and my OT asked to borrow it so we can work on is eating together. I have used some of the stuff to get him to at least try different foods and it has helped. I hope it helps!

Good Luck!
