Hello all.
My 3 1/2 yr old son Matthew has been diagnosed with PDD about 9 months ago. My wife has done a tremendous job in educating herself and me on what this is all about. I have been felling emotionally helpless for the past few weeks and found this site so I can speak my mind and not feel so alone.
Prior to being diagnosed this pass September 04, my son was getting speech therapy and the public school had at first declined him entrance, stating he was a late talker. He is now in a good special needs pre-school from 9 to 3pm, gets additional speech and OT on Saturdays and we have an ABA teacher work with him for 3 hours on Sunday. Quite a week for such a little fellow, but what ever it takes, right!!!!
We have a DAN Dr, who about 4 months ago, suggested all the test, blood, urine etc.. to check for allergies and poisons, he is allergic to 9 food groups, and on a gluten free diet. She suggested celiac disease symptoms. He also had a deficiency in omega 3 and some other areas.
So here we are, our son is doing much better, and he is talking, singing and even attempts to read. But not where he needs to be. I am very proud of him, he is a fighter, but we still have issues and that's why I need to seek some insight. He doesn't have any social speaking skills, so I can't ask him open-ended questions and get a response; ABA is going to work on that. We just did another urine test and find out that he needs to take a yeast aid, another challenge because his eating habits are already limited to water, goats milk, gluten free pancakes, organic hotdogs, gluten free french fries, gluten free pizza and pasta, baked crackers and cookies. Not much more. On top of this he is verbally stemming a lot. Meaning he will burst out with things like FA, FA, FA, FA and gets a bit aggressive with his little 14mth old sister. We have a heard time getting him dressed, he doesn't want to cooperate, and he has trouble falling asleep and wakes up at the crack of dawn.
I'm sure some of you are reading this and saying that's all, why would he be upset. Well, we all handle things differently, what my family is going through is a lot, I feel for my little buddy and want to make him better. I feel for my wife and daughter. I am having trouble with knowing how to help or correct these problems. There are a lot of HOPE discussions, hopefully the diet works, hopefully the ABA works, hopefully god hears my prayers, and hopefully I can come to some kind of understanding of how to help him and my family deal with this crisis. I am a loving, caring father who only wants the best for my son.
Thank you for your time and attention.
