Hi! I'm new here and I have a few concers about my 12 month old daughter. I know that it is very hard to tell at this age if she is autistic or not but I am just so scared and I need some reasurance. I had never even thought that she could be autistic until she got her MMR and chicken pox vaccine last Friday. I thought nothing of it unitl about 2 days after she recieved the vaccine. She became fussy and clingy and came down with a high fever. She had a fever and gas for about 5 days and her ped. said it was just a virus. She also just developed a rash from her head all the way down to her diaper area a couple days ago. The nurse warned me that this could happen 7-10 days after the chicken pox vaccine and that it would go away within 2-3 days. This is all fine and dandy but the problem is that...now that her fever and gas and rash are disappearing her personality has changed. She is very tired and cranky and doesn't seem to play mucha anymore. She has brief spouts of playing but then she seems to just walk away from what she is playing with and starts crying. Hew personality before this week was very outgoing and independant. She was always happy and laughing. She would play games with me and make me laugh. Now I am having a hard time keeping her from crying and she keeps walking around as if she is looking for something. I'm so scared. She is sleeping twice as much as she did beofre but then again at night she tosses and turn and I can hear her whining all throughout the night. She used to sleep through the night and take 2 hour long nnaps during the day. Now it's all out of wack! I understand that this could be that she is just off her schedule since she was sick but I'm just not seeing any improvement. Here are some things I am worried about. Maybe you guys can tell me if these are things that would be signs of Autisn since I am very new to the subject.
starts screaming out of no where
throws tantrums over very simple things
has a fisination with hair or anything with fringe. She will pull it up to her face and looks like she is smelling it or even cuddling it.
walks around as if she has lost something or is looking for something
covers her ears A LOT!!!! I don't think it's becaue of a certain noise or anything because she seems to do it constantly.
Pulls her hair or throws herself back when she gets frustrated
walks over and wants me and it seems like she wants me to hold her but she pushes me away when I try and hug or comfort her.
Likes small objects like buttons and light switches. I don't know if it's just her age and she is curious or if it could be a symptom.
I can't think of anymore right now. I am so worried I have had trouble thinking straight. If any of you could give me some ideas it would be great. Anyone having these issues?

Did you have concerns before her vaccines?

I wish I could reassure, but I would be concerned.
These signs must be some sort of vaccine reaction...If the doctors don't deal with it, maybe you should make some calls to find a doctor to take this seriously.
And I would not let her get any more vaccines.

Hi myself and wife , have a daughter also aged 21mths she recieved the mmr jag last year but over the months she does the exact same things as your daughter, our daughter throws herself back in tantrums as well and is never content, and expresses different emotions all within a short space of time, does not go to other people and sometimes does not go to my wife, she hates change anything different, and i have begun to think that she may be showing signs of autism

im just about to get results off my sons autism assesment. hes 10 years old. and hes still very delayed. it was only when my sons special needs teacher left in october of 2004. that they noticed some changes in my sons behaivour. ( sorry about the spelling). they noticed that he does not like change- ie routine. thomas did not start to speak untill he was in his 4/5 year olds. its been very hard bringing up thomas. and it will be nice to have a name with what has been wrong with him all of these years. i feel real sad though for thomas. because he is always looked on as naughty by family and strangers and friends. thomas cannot cope with feelings. ie jealoursy/excitment/shyness. when we meet new people or people we have not seen for a while thomas has trouble coping. he hides or he gets really naughty because he can't cope with change of routine. thomas's speech now is still bad. and he talks like a very young child. people look down to him that don't know him. children are the worst they play on thomas. they accuse him of things he has not done because thomas cannot explain well enough for people to take him serious. ive got lots to explain. and it can go on for a long while so i won't. but if you ask me a question then i will answer but i will try not to bore you. thankyou for reading this. and i hope they will finally find out it if autism thats wrong with my son thomas.

who here consideres stopping vaccinations?

My son no longer gets vaccinations. The odds that they do more harm than good to him are too great. Having autism is reason enough not to get the shots imo.

My daughter and son have both had some shots, but they lack one and that is the mmr...what are the chances of them getting this disease and also what happens if they do?I'm not wanting to continue the shots till I am more educated on it...what info do you have that you can send me?

Here's a site you could check out:
http://www.autismwebsite.com/ari/vaccine/vaccine.htm
It can be a difficult decision. My son had a very difficult time during puberty and I've always wondered if the mmr booster was partly responsible.
There is a new book out called, Evidence of Harm. I haven't read it myself, but you might want to check that, although its more about the vaccines that contain mercury, not the mmr.
