Hi, my name is Carrie (obviously). I'm a single mother of two here in Northern California. My daughter just turned 7, and my son will be 6 in June. He was diagnosed with Autism at about 2 and-a-half. It's been an upward struggle and sometimes gets a tad overwhelming, but my son is very loving and seemingly happy so its all worth it.
I'm glad to be here amongst some people who can understand the unique challenges that Autism offers any family. I browsed your introductions but most of you left out your location, so I'll ask you; where are you all from? :)

I'm Beth Guess what? I'm from Texas! Thus, Bethintx! S:)

We live in a town just north of Dallas, called The Colony.
Funny, some folks hear the name of our city and think it's a nudist colony! (we're not!)LOL! :)

It's in the Lewisville School district and has excellent programs for our autistic kids!

It's a great place to live! It's known for it's golf courses, the waterpark, and is by Lake Lewisville. Sure, we have our problems, but no city is a utopia!

Hi Carrie,

My name is Dale and live in Sugar Land, Texas. This is a little south west of Houston.

My middle son is Austin who has autism. He was diagnosed nearly six years ago and he has made tremendous progress. The school system and in particular the teachers he's had the past two years in his class have been superb, though you can't let your guard down so his Mom and I are constantly on guard to ensure he's getting everything that he needs.

We have educated ourselves a great deal and sites such as this are a big help.

Hi Carrie. I agree, introductions are tough. I am also new to the site. I live in the Eastern Sierra mountains of California, and I have twin sons with autism. They are 11 years old, and were diagnosed at 3. It's been tough, but they keep moving forward.

BUMP! Hello again. I registered over a year ago and never came back after the first week :( !!!! I had computer issues actually and really just got frustrated with trying to catch up with things once I got my computer back up and running. But here I am again, and hopefully I can become a regular part of this community. It's amazing how helpful it is to just be able to talk to people who have to jump the same hurdles!

Hi Carrie,
When did you first suspect something was going on with your son? My grandson is 19 months old and he does not talk any words. He has had his own language for a long time and carries on a conversation forever with you but in some other language (his own) none of it sounds like any words. My daughter thinks it is cute, and says he will talk when he is ready. I am beginning to worry that something else is going on. He is loving and sweet and happy but does get frustrated with his toys and when he can't communicate something to you and he gets mad and hits things in the house, even his mother on occassion. I am afraid to bring it up to her because she is so defensive when I thought she should ask about getting him tested for his speech. Please reply when you have time or anyone else who can help. Thanks
