Hello
My name is Sara I am currently a high school student who is planning on getting my college degree in Early Childhood education- Special Education and I want to work specifically with Autistic and Down Syndrom children. I am also currently tutoring a 14 year old Aspeger Syndrom(spelling??) boy. I am also planning to build a school for both autistic and downs children. I currently have the first floor floor plan. For some children it would be a live in school and for others it would be just like any other school just with highly specialized teachers and staff. I would appreciate any information that would help me further understand these children. Many people have asked why I want to work with autistic children. I had to think about it because I actually had no idea why, it was like a calling. However, when I was little my best friend's little brother was different than the other kids, he had autism. After his diagnosis his family up and moved out of state. I never understood why because I saw his as a normal little boy who just did not talk. Now that I am older I can sort of understand why they moved, out of shame. But I do not think that parents should have to go hide just because their children are different. This is perhaps why I feel drawn to this specific disorder. Thank you for any input. My email is Texas13579@aol.com.

Welcome to the group....Sounds like this building is your dream? Or do you already have a way to get the money to do it?

No, right now I have no financial means to make my dreams a reality but I am always searching for ways to make it happen.

Hi Sara,
Hang in there, go to college, get a degree in education and adminstration.
Go one step at a time! By the way, finish school BEFORE getting married and/or having children! It works better that way! I know it's difficult to go the slow route when you have the finished product in your mind. after high school in your Junior Year of college then do the research on getting your school built.

This is my advice.
Take it or leave it.

Thank you for your advice. You're right it is extremely difficult to wait when I want to help people now. There are so many children who could benefit and it is so heart wrenching to know that you can help. I wish that I could fast forward about 7 or 8 years. Again thank you for your advice.
