My son is 18 and has AS. He just got accepted to a nearby (not too nearby) State University with a good reputation for accomodations and will be starting in the fall.
He's planning on living in the dorm!
Oh! folks I am gonna need support!
I worry that he won't monitor himself well enough and those booboos that tend to get really bad before he notices them will and he won't.
I worry that dorm life will wear through his last nerve!
I worry that he's not all that hot on claiming accomodations he probably needs.
I worry that our documentation won't be enough for them. I fought the school battle long and hard, who wants to start at square one!
But I am also Proud Proud Proud that he got himself to this point! One more claim to normalcy-- guess its time for the private parent's party again! You know, when you underreact for you kid and give them a gentle "that's nice dear" in proportion to their tollerance for "fuss" and then you grab your spouse and drag them away to a private corner of the house and dance around and say (as loudly as you dare) YES! He did it! Yea! Whahoo! Yippee! and then you compose yourself and go back to your day! :D Fun ain't it?
