We are currently using fish oils only with our four year old.
It has been three months as we want to see the reaction to each addition.
Next step?
Cal -mag ?
Vitamin C ?
B6
B12
He is not hyperactive, does not tantrum, and seems very typical, except of course on his "spaced days".
Thanks for your advice

Are you avoiding a multi?

Welcome to the group!

No,
He is taking a multi, but my mind seems to work - pre diagnosis, blank.
He has always taken a multi
and since diagnosis six months ago we have introduced fish oils only
It is so confusing since it seems that almost every vitamin and supplement that exists is recommended

Have you looked into probiotics or enzymes?

As far as the others you mentioned, I don't know...
It may depend on how much he's getting in the multi.

I supplement my adult son's multi with E, C, Flax, Fish Oil, Methyl B12, Lipoceutical Glutathione, enzymes and probiotics.

C might be easy since it comes in chewable.
The Methyl B 12 we use is a lozenge.

Do you know if he has any deficiencies?

Is he on any diet?

He had an Iron deficiency, which was taken care of.
No special diet, and no other deficiencies.
No intestinal problems.
Do you think that calcium with magnesium has any virtue, or should we go straight to B 12?
I prefer to introduce one thing at a time, and watch for any results, positive or negative.
Thanks

Well, assuming you have a good multi with cal/mag included.... and yet it probably does not include Methyl B12...and B12 is getting a lot of attention in autism....low glutathione is also being found a lot in autism and B12 could help glutathione levels.

Has he ever been on antibiotics?

Yet I'm just a mom and my son is an adult...and of course I really don't know what you should do.

My son's Organic Acid Test indicated B12 deficiency, low C, low glutathione, low seratonin, yeast overgrowth...and this helped me choose supplements.

Thank you for all of your help.
I have made an appointment with a holistic doctor, who treats kids with autism.
I was never a believer in the biomedical treatments, but am slowly becoming the converted.
His multi does include calcium with magnesium.
He was tested for metals, and his mercury level was within the normal range.
Thanks again, as you have helped me come to the conclusion that this should be supervised by a doctor

Forgot to say that he was on antibiotics on numerous occasions.
He was given a strong antibiotic at two weeks

Yeast overgrowth is a possibility and rather common in autism. Maybe it even has a part in his "spaced out" days.

Good luck with your appt.

Our appointment is this week on Wed.(I am the grandmother).
I am very nervous, as he eats so little that we are not anxious to put him on GF . We are simply grateful if he eats anything.
He basically lives on chocolate soy milk and juice.
I had asked on another forum, but got no response.
Some parents think that soy is good for our kids, and others think that is bad.
This is very confusing.
Does anyone know why ?
Would very much appreciate a response
Thanks in advance

Well it would depend on whether or not he tolerated the soy. My son can't have casein, but soy doesn't seem to be a problem. I guess soy can be a problem for some though. I think it has something to do with whether or not they can properly digest it.

You could have a Peptides test done to see if there is a problem to gluten or casein.

We also had an Organic Acid Test done. This indicated a yeast overgrowth, low seratonin, impaired detox, and vitamin deficiencies for my son. The test was so helpful that I had my husband do the same test and he had similar findings.

If someone has been on antibiotics, it is a good idea to consider giving probiotics. My son takes his (I open the capsules) mixed in applesauce.

Have you been to see a Nutricanist? They can run tests to better tell you what your child needs or doesn't.
We had Clayton's IgGI test done and it came back with all kinds of allergies. Also his Bacteriology report came back that he has Leaky Gut. He is on lots of suppliments. But the main thing we are doing is the GF/CF diet. Have you looked into this?
