Goodmorning, I am writting to give you an inspirational story. I have a daycare,.7 years ago one of my daycare children was diagnosed with autism, she is a twin ,she has very mild autism but never the less she was showing signs of every autistic child, often she would go into her own little world and we would pull her back, frightened she would stay there one day and be lost to us. She is now 10 years old and after years of ''programing'' i not only am her daycare provider but am also her worker. Christine is now a brilliant little girl she shows little signs of autism however it is there. She performs above her and our wildest expectations. I work one on one with her 5 days a week for 2 hours and she says it is her favorite time of day. I cannot tell you how far she has come, she writes poetry as I thought it would be a good way for her to express herself. Enclosed is a poem i wrote for her.....
autism..... a place of my own.....
there is a place i like to go,,
.a place i call my own...
a place i feel the warm winds blow
a place away from home..
they tell me not to go here
i should always stay away
i see them look at me with fear...
but theres nothing i can say...
i really want to come back home
I just want to be free
but the place I like to call my own ...
is the place you will find me........
for christine with love........laurie
Christine found her way back home..........
